The Process: Our Packaging

The Process: Our Packaging

At ITATI, we consider packaging to be part of the objects that we craft, as an extension of the care and intention that we put into making each piece.

Our ceramics are made slowly and by hand in small batches, and through this process of making, we realized that we wanted the experience of receiving an item to feel just as thought out, and intentional.

This week in the playbook is the process of how we make our packaging.

Our custom draw string dust bags are made by hand in our textile atelier from a cotton fabric - where they are stitched, hand dyed and embroidered with our logo. Each bag is dyed in a signature color and embroidered with a contrast stitch.

These bags are designed to be kept rather than discarded, they can continue to live alongside the pieces they arrive with, for storing, protecting or carrying them or re-purposed and used as something else entirely. In this way we feel that the packaging becomes an object in its own right, and doesn't go to waste like most wrappers and boxes do.

Our cards (which you can customize with a note for gifts) are printed locally using paper that is made from sugar cane extracts - which is an eco friendly alternative to regular paper that comes from trees. Sugar cane produces an agricultural ‘waste’ that is left after extracting the canes juice. Instead of discarding these fibers, paper is made from them - which is a sustainable and biodegradable alternative to regular card stock.

From the vessel to what surrounds it, each element is made slowly, thoughtfully and always by hand.
